Bell Media's MuchFACT Announces Fund Recipients for February Music Committee
– $484,215 awarded to 20 recipients -
TORONTO (February 15, 2017) –Bell Media’s MuchFACT (A Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent) has reached a significant milestone, surpassing $100 million in total contributions to projects by Canadian artists. The announcement was made as MuchFACT confirmed the 20 fund recipients from the February 9, 2017 music committee meeting. With more than 178 applications considered, a total of $484,215 was awarded to Canadian musicians in the following categories: Content Package, Music Video, Online Music Video/Project, and Digital Tools.
MuchFACT’s $100 million contribution to Canada’s music industry represents nearly 9,000 projects since the foundation’s launch in 1984. Some of the most prominent videos funded by MuchFACT include: “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen, which has nearly one billion views on YouTube; “Lovers In A Dangerous Time” by Barenaked Ladies; and “Sprawl II” by Arcade Fire.
MuchFACT is proud to once again sponsor the JUNO Award for Video of the Year. Among the five nominees, announced earlier this week, is MuchFACT recipient Kaytranada, nominated for his video “Lite Spots,” directed by Martin C. Pariseau, which is also being recognized at the annual Prism Prize.
MuchFACT funded videos account for half of the 20 nominations at the annual Prism Prize gala, including: “Stadium Pow Wow” by A Tribe Called Red, directed by Kevan Funk; “It’s Okay, I Promise” by Harrison f. Clairmont the Second, directed by Scott Cudmore; “Red Alert /100 Roses” by Jazz Cartier, directed by Jon Riera; “Picturing Love” by July Talk, directed by Jared Raab; “Sleep In The Heat” by PUP, directed by Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux; “Move Together” by Somewhere Else f. Majid Jordan, directed by Helmi; “Can I Get A Witness” by SonReal, directed by Peter Huang; “Retribution” by Tanya Tagaq, directed by Brian Johnson; and “Amerika” by Wintersleep, directed by Scott Cudmore.
